Desensitized

If you’re at any real level of Christianity you can see that time itself seems to be winding down. Good and evil seem to be gathering at opposite ends of the room with an eternal game of Red Rover about to take place.

Jesus was telling the disciples about the end times, with earthquakes, and wars, and division, but then he said something interesting. Luke 21:34-36 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

All that is happening on the earth will happen to everyone. But he gave a warning….don’t let worries of this life, or too much partying, or drinking weigh you down.

Christians as a whole are a good group of people. Many nights I have spent around a game board with Christian men and women enjoying life, and the life we have been given. Nothing wrong with that, but the church in some ways is in danger of feasting and playing instead of fasting and praying.

It is not that they are wrong…it’s that too much desensitizes us to what we’re supposed to be doing…watching and praying. We have to be more in tune with the Spirit as time goes on. The same thing applies with our concerns for life….money, bills, kids, etc. These dull us from being aware of what Christ is wanting to do in us.

More and more as time winds down, men and women who are not in tune with the Spirit will find themselves moving when they should be still, and still when they should move. Dependence on the Spirit is becoming more crucial than ever before, and the focus on anything in this life keeps us from being sensitive. Time to sit down, slow down, and tune in. Otherwise…we’ll be deceived…and fall into the trap.
