less is more
I want you to be honest with yourself. What do you want more of? If you’re being honest, is it a nicer house? More clothing? More savings/money? What is it that you silently crave? Better job? I mean, your boss sucks, so why not you? Pastors, is it more people? If you just had money for a nicer building? What about my spiritual giftings? If I had more, I would do more.
Why do I ask? Because the hunger for more is real. It is even in the things you don’t grasp. My daughter (who had no brothers) cannot comprehend why her three sons cannot stop competing for everything: “Why do they want to wrestle and fight all the time?” It’s because more is dominance…Boys establishing dominance. Women do it too, but they want more attention, and if some other woman gets more…watch the gossip, cat-claws come out.
I want you to know that being a man or woman of God will be realized in what you give up, more than what you get. For years, the church has been considered successful if it was a big church filled with nice and nice-looking people driving nice cars. But what God considers men or women of the Kingdom of God is entirely different.
What can you live without? Did you ever read the Ten Commandments? The last one…you shall not covet. Do you know what that means to us? You shall not want…anything. You are not to want more things…things your neighbor has; you are not to long for more stuff. Coveting…that’s what it is?
Why is coveting so bad? Because covetousness is at the heart of the sin nature. Wanting more of anything, even spiritual things, is a sign that your sin nature is in control. We want and desire even in the church. Watch social media and influencers…watch the wealthy flaunting more, more, more.
Did you know the first Rule of Satanism is “Do what you will?” Goes right along with Nike “Just do it.” But it’s that same sort of mindset which is coveting…do whatever feels good, get more stuff, get fame, get fortune; after all, you’re a child of God. You’re supposed to have good things; doesn’t the Bible say “my cup runs over?” That’s not doing without!
Sounds just like the Devil to Eve…”Did God really say don’t eat?” “Shouldn’t you have more?”
All these things come from a place of sin. All the desires for more…even when we don’t let ourselves think that we are wanting more….we are coveting.
I used to think I would be a great teacher of God’s word…Prophesied over that I would be a mouthpiece for him….I would speak his word…wooohooo. I AM THA MAN. What I found out is that all of that just provoked my flesh. My job is to do what he wants today… No fanfare, no crowds awed at my knowledge, no huge income… no fame. Did you do what I asked?
What we have will perish with us, except for Him. Everything else…the things you don’t even realize that you’re trying to gain are hindering your walk. Dying is life
Less is more.
